Hong Kong Airlines gets its first North America route

Hong Kong Airlines is starting its expansion across the Pacific with a daily flight to Vancouver, Canada, giving Canada’s western gateway three daily non-stops to Hong Kong.

The service, starting June 30, will use an A330. Flight times are 12:40 eastbound and 13:40 westbound, but the International Date Line will play havoc with passengers’ perceptions. The Vancouver-bound flight leaves Hong Kong at 12:30 pm, and arrives in Vancouver at 10:10 am the same day—more than 2 hours before it left.

The illusion vanishes in the other direction when the plane leaves Vancouver at 12:10 and arrives in Hong Kong at 4:50 pm the next day.

The route is also served by Air Canada and Cathay Pacific.
