While wandering down the Rambles, near the Betlem church, my wife and I made a small detour to catch lunch at a cafe we’d read about in a guidebook.
Cafe Granja Viader specializes in pastries and dairy products (especially chocolate milk) and has been open since 1870. We arrived in the early afternoon and the cafe was not at all busy — probably getting close to siesta time. As we were getting pretty hungry, we decided to get some sandwiches, my wife a grilled cheese and I the Iberian ham. The sandwiches were excellent and the coffee gave us the extra lift we needed.
We had time to stroll around the cafe and enjoyed the nostalgic posters and Viader family photos. After a short and pleasant rest, we continued down the Rambles to see Christopher Columbus by the sea!
That’s a truly impressive floor, Garry. I wonder how long it took to get it all planned and laid out properly.
I love the artwork in the ceramic floor tiles. So common in Spain and Morocco where they originate but a disappearing art throughout Europe. Restricted here in the UK to buildings of the 19th Century and under a preservation order.
My favourite collection of ceramic floor tiles in St Georges Hall Liverpool. UK.
The floor consists of 30,000 hand crafted tiles. It’s known as the Minton Floor because the hand-crafted tiles were manufactured by Minton Hollins in Stoke in 1852. There are Minton tiles in the White House.
