Congratulations goes to George G who solved our incredible tough WITW 200th puzzle! Gumbo was is the town of Brevik in Telemark, Norway at the Brevik Kirke (Church).
Brevik is one of the best preserved towns from the sailing ship era. The town was a center for ice and timber exports and exported timber as late as 1960 to the UK. Brevik was established as a municipality in 1838 and merged with Porsgrunn in 1964. Brevik is especially popular with Norwegians on weekends in summer who go there to shop, eat and drink.
You can see the Brevik Kirke from most of the town. It was built in 1963 but still fits in very well with the surrounding older architecture.
Also visible from a lot of Brevik is the Brevik Bridge, a suspension bridge that goes from Brevik to Bamle over Frierfjord.
The flags in Brevik show the pride Norwegians have for their history, beautiful town and country. That pride really makes the town and the Telemark region a special place in Norway.
Wow … it’s been a year. I remember this WITW being the toughest. I didn’t find the answer until the very last day. I had to follow Google Earth Street View throughout almost all of Scandinavia to find this place. A Great WITW ! TRAVEL ROB put me to a severe test.
Norway is a great country for a road trip. There are so many cool places you’ll discover that Norwegians love to travel to that are not from the “Norway in a Nutshell” tours that many international travelers go on.
