7 Canadian classics to celebrate Canada’s 150th

It’s Canada’s 150th birthday this year, so there are lots of events and activities going on—some of them uniquely Canadian. Hotels.com asked some of its partners for suggestions of classics, and came up with this list.

  • See the Northern Lights with your naked eye in the Yukon On clear winter nights, Canada has some of the most spectacular displays.
  • Get soaked at the base of the Niagara Falls On the Canadian side at the falls, you can walk in behind the water, or sail up to the base.
  • Look a polar bear in the eye in Manitoba Churchill, Manitoba is the polar-bear watcher’s ideal spot.
  • Learn to play hockey in Canmore, Alberta Not only home to the Canadian Hockey Player Experience for those who want to try, but right on the edge of the Rockies
  • Paddle a canoe through rapids in the Northwest Territories How Canada was explored and settled, relived today.
  • Learn how to fish for lobster in P.E.I. You can join the crew and learn how to do it…or just eat some of the freshest lobsters anywhere.
  • Cross the country by train going from Vancouver to Toronto A 3-day, 4-night classic train journey spans the continent.

More details on all of these are at Canadian Insider, but they are far from all there is to see, especially in a year when Canada is giving visitors a free pass to the national park system, eh?
