Located in Post Alley under Pike Place Market is a unique attraction which is now a local landmark. It is a brick wall near the box office for the Market Theater, and is covered in used chewing gum. Parts of the wall covered several inches thick, and is15 feet high for 50 feet.
This crazy tradition began around 1993 when patrons of Unexpected Productions’ Seattle Theatre sports stuck gum to the wall and placed coins in the gum blobs.
Theater workers scraped the gum away twice, but eventually gave up after market officials deemed the gum wall a tourist attraction around 1999. Some people created small works of art out of gum.
It was quite interesting to see, and I was surprised at how many people were taking pictures with the wall. We saw many people taking selfies of themselves blowing bubbles. It was crazy, but kind of a fun place to visit while exploring Pike Place Market.
