Spain’s—and possibly the world’s—largest permanent maze is scheduled to open next month in Villapresente, in Cantabria.
Its creator, a tree farmer whose sales fell off in the recession, created the maze by transplanting his unsold seedlings onto a 5000-square-meter plot, half the size of a soccer field. It’s made of over 4000 trees, and has 4 km of paths through it.
But don’t panic: visitors will be given the owner’s phone number in case they need help finding their way out. Emilio Perez, the owner, says he hopes it will provide his daughter, who will manage it, with a steady income from admissions and from a bar she’s set up nearby. Admission price isn’t set yet, but Perez says it will be under €4 to encourage families to visit.
So far, the average time to get through it has been about an hour, and the fastest times are about half an hour.
Love the spirit of entrepreneurship. But I would definitely get lost.
