A new A380, first to be delivered to Japan’s ANA airline, will come painted as a giant Hawaiian sea turtle. It will fly the airline’s Tokyo to Honolulu route.
The unique dress was the winner of a contest with nearly 2200 entrants to create a unique look for the airline’s first super-jumbo, which will enter service in 2019. It will be named Flying Honu; honu is the Hawaiian word for sea turtle.
ANA, Japan’s second-largest carrier, plans to use its A380s on its densest international routes. It ordered 3 of the super-jumbos last year, the first airline in several years to add A380 orders.
