Uniworld, one of the major European river cruise companies, is setting itself up for an audience of young professionals, decades below the stereotype of who takes river cruises.
Ellen Betteridge, head of Uniworld, told Cruise Critic that U by Uniworld is aimed at “young professionals who have a bit of money, who want to travel, and want to meet and hang out with people like them. We wanted to do something different, to make it stand out, and we wanted to engage new customers earlier, instead of waiting for them to come to us when they’re 50.”
The cruises will use two of the line’s boats, newly-renovated, and will offer some innovations: No included lunch, as passengers are expected to stay ashore longer; more active excursions, and more evening ashore events designed to appeal to the 21-45 crowd.
It’s another area of expansion for cruise operators, who have in recent years been adding family-friendly ships and cruises as well. For a longer report on Uniworld’s plan from CruiseCritic.com, click HERE
