Hundreds of ‘Tramps’ mark Chaplin’s birthday

Setting a world record, 662 people dressed as Charlie Chaplin’s iconic ‘Little Tramp’ celebrated the comedian’s 128th birthday yesterday.

The event took place at his former home in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland, his home for the last decades of his life. The house now houses a museum dedicated to his career. The museum, open just a year, logged 300,000 visitors in its first year, about a third more than expected.

Annick Barbezat-Perrin, a museum spokesperson, told media that “There have been big Charlie Chaplin gatherings in the past, but this is the first to be certified by an officer of the law.”
