Hollywood stars have made the desert city famous by using it as a  quick getaway from LA.  Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bob Hope, Cary Grant and many other stars have purchased homes there in the past. Currently, the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January draws current celebrities.

My oldest son and I went to Palm Springs earlier this year and enjoyed a nice lunch,  walk and drive. The city is  really beautiful and more popular now than I remembered. It has become a real hotspot for restaurants too.

Does it enjoy an all year warm climate ? Is it a thriving city ? Is it one of those cities where retired folk go and live in peace ?

Winters are absolutely wonderful in the Palm Springs area.  Summers are unbearably hot.  Temps can exceed 40 C, Garry.  I made the mistake of stopping there in the summer some years back and when I got back to my car, the vehicle was so hot I actually burned my hand trying to get the door open.

It is thriving,  especially in the winter.  Summers tend to be relatively slower paced as is true of any place with a very hot climate.

On a cool note, if you want to escape the summer heat in the desert, the popular Palm Springs tram will wisk you up to the top of Mt. San Jacinto where you can enjoy a hike on the mountain in a pleasant temperate climate.

Mt. San Jacinto sounds more like my cup of tea ! I’ve tried 40c and its not pleasant.  Thanks for the well informed insight.

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
