The Painted Lady, Reidsville, GA

A lot of small towns in Georgia had hotels like the Smith-Nelson Hotel, now the Nelson Hotel Bed and Breakfast. I’m glad this hotel exists and is still operating.

The Smith-Nelson Hotel was built in 1908 after a previous hotel on the site burned down. The hotel served visitors who came by train and were in Reidsville to conduct business at the county courthouse.

The Painted Lady

It’s Folk Victorian Architecture and has a wrap- around porch and a hipped roof with center gables. The style was very popular from the 1870s  to 1910. The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic places and is  known in town as the Painted Lady.
