Cape George Point Lighthouse is found in northern Nova Scotia. As its name implies it is situated at Cape George Point, overlooking St. George’s Bay. We came upon the lighthouse while exploring some of the small roads in the area and its setting is dramatic and beautiful, perched high on a cliff 360 ft above the water! Despite the storm clouds swirling about, we could see Cape Breton Island in the distance. Apparently Prince Edward Island can also be seen on a clear day.
The lighthouse was originally erected in 1861 and destroyed by fire in 1907. The present lighthouse is the third at this site and was built in 1968. The area is now a park with hiking trails lead from it.
