A newly-donated collection of contemporary works by Canadian artists had its debut Saturday at Canada’s National Gallery in Ottawa. The 197 works represent in-depth looks at the work of artists collected by the donor, Bob Rennie.
Rennie, who has served on boards of a number of museums and galleries is noted for collecting selected artists in depth to allow an overview of their developing careers. The works given to the National Gallery, which will be displayed in a gallery renamed for him, include Brian Jungen, Damian Moppett, Rodney Graham, Ian Wallace, and Geoffrey Farmer, as well as a Colombian artist, Doris Salcedo.
Farmer is this year’s Canadian entrant in the Venice Biennale art exhibition.
