It’s 60 years since Arthur Frommer’s Europe on 5 Dollars a Day kick-started not only the budget travel idea but the whole phenomenon of mass travel there, and today’s Frommers.com website is a nostalgic celebration.
Not only the items featured in the picture above: there are lots of slide-shows for travel fans to spend too much time with (as I just did!): Covers, both good and bad; places that no one goes to anymore, and places no one went to before Frommer shone a light on it. Pleasures and pains of ‘old-days’ travel and more, including a list of places from the original book that are still open. Some are even still budget-minded!
