Nearly a million Chinese travelers visited New York last year, pushing into #2 behind only the U.K., with 1.2 million. While the UK numbers haven’t grown, the China total is a big jump from last year, and 7 times the 2007 figure.
NYC & Company, the official city tourism promotion agency’s head told a press briefing (above) that businesses across the city, including hotels, cultural institutions and restaurants, are turning to Chinese travellers, many of them have started offering Chinese language tours, and hot tea, slippers and other amenities.
China’s rise to the #2 spot pushed Brazil and Canada each back a spot to #3 and #4.
