With more than 45,000 visitors expected and over 1000 journalists, Bordeaux’s Vinexpo wine festival opened yesterday in France’s wine capital.
Prominent among the foreign visitors are a growing number from China, including some wealthy Chinese investors who now own vineyards in France. A new agreement between French wine growers and China’s TMall online sales platform will be signed at the event.
This year’s honored guest country is Spain, one of France’s main competitors, along with Italy. Among the 2300 exhibitors, those countries predominate, although there are 4 Chinese exhibitors this year, as well as many from the U.S. This year, there’s a new category, with 150 exhibitors in the organic wine area, a category that’s shown significant growth.
