It is easy to settle into the slow rhythm of Adler Thermae Resort and Spa in the heart of Tuscany, but I want to explore a little too.
Close by is Bagno Vignoni, a tiny village dating to ancient times, so I set off one morning at a leisurely pace. It is no more than 10 minutes from the resort.
The central area of the community, with less than 50 inhabitants, is a large 16th-century century thermal bath. Because the village is located on the Via Francigena (once serving as the main route followed by pilgrims who went to Rome), the thermal waters were discovered and have been in use since Roman times.
The waters, from the same source as the thermal waters at Adler Resort, originate from a subterranean aquifer of volcanic origins. The Etruscans and later the aristocratic Romans recognized the curative effects of the waters
I enjoy my stroll; taking photos and browsing in a well-appointed book store before stopping for a glass of Diet Coke at a sidewalk café.
What a lovely and relaxing way to make a Tuscan memory.
