A comical winning name for one of the new express trains that will link Stockholm and Gothenburg will not be rejected, the train operator MTR Express says.
The company’s marketing chief, Per Nasfi, says “I can guarantee with my life that the train will be called Trainy McTrainface. The name will be on the train. We’ll hold naming ceremonies in the autumn both in Gothenburg and Stockholm where we travel between.”
The question arose because last year, Britain rejected the popular winner of a contest to name a new ocean research vessel. An internet vote came up with Boaty McBoatface as the winner; authorities instead named it for Sir David Attenborough, and gave the comic name to one of its satellite underwater probes.
The other new trains will be named Ingvar (for a popular TV host), Estelle (for a young Swedish princess) and Glenn (for a whole number of players named Glenn who twice powered Gothenburg’s team to European championships in the 1980s.
