Japan’s craze for cat cafes, previously reported here by SeeSaw, has spread to a new venue: a cat cafe train that will highlight efforts to rescue stray cats.
The cat cafe idea—tea and light refreshments in pleasant surroundings with plenty of cats on hand for company—has remained popular, with many cafes including some which specialize in particular breeds or colors of cats. And there are cafes that try to match rescued cats with new owners.
One of those, called Sanctuary, is partnering with the Yoro Railway to run two cat trains on September 10, each staffed with rescued cats and travelers willing to pay regular fare, plus a 3000 yen contribution for Sanctuary’s work. The tickets sold out within days.
