According to VisitBritain, the official tourism promotion agency, Harry Potter and Manchester United football team are near the top the list of what Chinese visitors want to see, while effusive hugs and kisses are not.
To no one’s surprise, visitors from China have become an important part of every country’s tourism promotion, and tourism promotion agencies take a close look to see what will bring more, and send them home happier.
Britain had over 220,000 Chinese visitors last year, spending over £500 million, but that was a drop from 2015, and British businesses eager to recoup hope to use the data to move ahead.
According to the report, Chinese visitors come with expectations and interest in such diverse directions as the Royal Family, Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, and Downtown Abbey, as well as museums, and increasingly, English football. The report also suggests the importance of including a noodle pot along with the usual kettle for in-room food, and avoiding over-familiarity which is said to be embarrassing to the visitors.
