British holidays in Tunisia to return

British holiday giant Thomas Cook will start selling vacation packages for Tunisia beach vacations starting in February, ending an absence of almost three years after 38 tourists were killed by terrorists in the resort town of Sousse in June 2015.

Thirty of the victims were British, and British tour companies cancelled all further trips on advice of the British Foreign Office. The government lifted that advice earlier this month. The drop in tourism has been devastating for Tunisia and other North African areas, although some German, French and Belgian visitors continued traveling.

Thomas Cook, which kept its Tunisia offices open to serve that business, is selling packages with dates starting from February 13. For now, it is limiting them to only a few hotels in the Hammamet area. Tunisian authorities have greatly increased security since the attacks.
