The Hotel Charleroi Airport is host to many solo business travelers, and it’s offering them an innocent way to have a companion for the night: a goldfish.
The fish are available for rental at €3.50 a night, and have proven quite popular, although not necessarily because of the companionship.
“They like to go back to the office with an expenses claim for goldfish rental,” said David Dillen, the hotel manager who dreamed up the scheme and bought the fish. They were originally intended to calm customers waiting at the desk.
Not everyone is happy, though. There have been complaints that the bowls are too small and bare. Dillen, however, says that when the fish are not on duty, they are kept in a larger tank with plants in the housekeeping department.
