Ganong’s Candy Bench, St Stephen, NB

Ganongs Bros., Limited is Canada’s oldest candy company founded in 1873 by James and Gilbert Ganong. It’s headquarters is in   St. Stephen, New Brunswick. The above photo is the bench where people sat when they were waiting to meet with front office staff.

IMG_20170818_120940The old factory is now a museum where they showcase Ganong’s history. The museum shows the history of chocolate and shows Ganong’s process of making candies and chocolates.

Arthur Ganong was the first to make any sort of wrapped chocolate bar which they began selling in 1910 using the brand name of “Pal-o-Mine”. The company also was the first to introduce a heart-shaped boxes of chocolates to North America. The boxes were originally used for presents over the Christmas season. Later they started selling the boxes for Valentine’s Day. 

A fun place to visit plus they have a chocolate store in the same building.

Looks great! I remember touring that factory as a kid and going home with pockets full of misformed “ugly” chocolates that couldn’t be sold. Will have to check out this museum someday
