WestJet, Canada’s expanding #2 airline, is taking a leaf from bigger carriers by setting up WestJet Link, a regional affiliated carrier to feed passengers into its Calgary hub.
Flights are now operating between Calgary and five western destinations, allowing passengers from those areas to fly conveniently on to WestJet’s other destinations. The cities served from Calgary by Link are Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, Cranbrook and Prince George.
The service is similar to those used by American, United and Delta, which contract with smaller carriers to fly major-branded small aircraft in smaller and short-haul markets. For westJet, the partner carrier is Pacific Coastal Airlines, which is flying its 30+ Saab 340B turboprops in WestJet livery. Six seats on each flight will be premium economy, or WestJet Plus.
