Canada puts its 150th on ice

Canada’s been celebrating its 150th birthday as a nation this year, and has a schedule of closing events across the country to finish up the year.

Since it’s winter and it’s Canada, a lot of the events include snow and skating, including 17 events across the country on December 10, designated National Skating Day. The events include 17 flagship events and hundreds more locally. At the big events, skates and coaching will be available.

The biggest skating event, though, lasts more than a day. On Parliament Hill in Ottawa, an NHL-sized rink will open free to the public from Dec. 7 to 31. Also on Dec. 7, the annual Christmas lights will illuminate Parliament Hill and continue to Jan. 7th, kicking off “Christmas Lights Across Canada.”
