December 1, 2017: Kittiwakes, Northumberland

I have been working with the Kittiwake Colonies along the Northumberland Coast.  These images, taken at Braidcarr Point, North Sunderland, show the different development of the young. Some are still little balls of fluffy feathers quite dependent on the parent bird. Others, aged over 42 days, have fledged; still slightly dependent on the parent bird they can now start to feed themselves. This Colony departs in early August, leaving any unfledged birds to the fate of nature!
