Dutch restaurant lobbying group KHN is starting its own reservation service, and signing up restaurants that feel they are overcharged by the two services operated by TripAdvisor. The new service is called Bookdinners.
TripAdvisor which bought lens in 2015 and Couverts in 2016, charges €1.50 to €2 per diner, plus a monthly charge of €29-69. The new service won’t charge a reservation fee. There is no monthly charge now, but starting in July it will cost €15 a month. So far, 2000 restaurants have joined, and KHN expects another thousand by summer.
The restaurateurs are also looking at the delivery business, where the main company in the business, Thuisbezorgd, has raised its share of each order from 12% to 13%. KHN is looking at the possibility of competing.
