Where Gumbo Was #254
Congratulations to George G for finding Gumbo at the Skotfoss Church, Skein municipality, Norway.
The Skotfoss church was built in 1900 and paid for by the Union Paper Mill. It was constructed by workers from the local Union Skotfoss Paper Mill. Paper from there was exported to the world, including paper for The New York Times. The mill used the famous Telemark Canal to float logs to the mill. The first electric industrial railway in Norway also opened at the mill.
The old paper mill closed down on December 31, 1986 and now is the site of a great antique store, Old Union Brug Antique. The owner has a nice collection of classic cars that he keeps in the store to show visitors.
