Mickey goes to France on a river cruise

Adventures by Disney, which dipped its toes into European river cruising two years will expand into France next year, adding sailings on the Seine to its Rhine and Danube itineraries.

The Disney-themed and marketed cruises use ships from AmaWaterways that have been fitted with cabins that can take 3 or 4 people, and some that can connect. That’s rare for river cruising, which traditionally appeals to older couples, but the success of the past two years has spurred the expansion. Other operators are taking a close look, too.

The Seine trips, for now, will use a vessel that hasn’t been fitted with family cabins. The nine-night cruise will run twice in the summer for families, and twice in the fall for adult Disney fans. The trip combines two nights in Paris with seven days aboard. Stops include Vernon, near Monet’s home and garden, and the D-Day beaches. For those who can’t get enough Mouse, there’s an optional two-day extension at Disneyland Paris.

The ten Rhine sailings also include a pair of adults-only trips, and there will be one among the seven Danube tours.
