With changes in Star Alliance rules for round-the-world fares, it’s now possible to circle the globe almost without leaving an airport along the way. The new change reduces the number of required 24-hour breaks in the trip to two.
Star Alliance’s 28 member airlines, including United in the U.S. market the product for adventurous travelers who can build an itinerary using any of the alliance’s members for legs of the flight. But to qualify for the special fare, travelers are required to make an occasional 24-hour break in the flight. Apparently, some travelers barely want to get off the plane and see the world!
For those less devoted to Terminal Life, the itinerary can include up to 15 stops along the way, with the opportunity to actually visit. In fact, Star Alliance even has prepared ‘themed’ itineraries, including such options as World Food, Natural Wonders, Architecture Hotspots, Wine Tasting, and more.
