An Australian family whose pet cockatoo had flown the coop got a big surprise when it was returned to them after their cruise, and even a bigger one when they learned the bird had taken a cruise of its own, to New Zealand.
While the family was on a P&O cruise along the Queensland coast, Harri the Cockatoo had booked a more adventurous itinerary, sailing on Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess for a 14-day visit to New Zealand. Crew members spotted the bird, and realized it was a pet from her microchip.
During the cruise Harri had her own cabin, a laminated crew ID card, and daily room service. And, things being what they are, she was also kept under strict biosecurity rules that allowed her to return home, without quarantine, when her ship arrived several days after the family’s own cruise.
