Survey: Most Chinese travelers favor B&Bs, homestays

Over two-thirds of Chinese travelers pick a bed-and-breakfast or home-stay over big hotels as their lodging choice, according to a survey by China Youth Daily.

The paper reports that 67.6% of over 2,000 respondents across age groups chose the option. Many of those surveyed cited easier immersion into local customs, opportunities for social networking and quietness as reasons.

On the other hand, over half reported some bad experiences in their stay at a B&B, small family-run hotel or home; 51.3% reported some unpleasant experience, including sanitation. Many suggested clearer industry standards and better training as ways to improve the experience.

Sounds a lot like the rest of the world, doesn’t it?
