Oslo has so much snow this winter it’s run out of money to move it and places to dump it. The first problem is easier to solve, with a new budget appropriation, but the other is not so easy.
While the city council approved an approximately 40% addition to the plowing budget to over $18 million, the city’s usual deposit sites are full. The giant ice-melting machine at the harbor is overwhelmed, and the trucks have been dumping the extra along roadways and in parking lots.
In addition to the huge amounts of snow removed, the Urban Environment Agency has spread 25,000 tons of grit to improve traction, nearly twice as much as last year. And it’s had to tow 750 cars out of its way.
Without wanting to get into a discussion of Global Warming – the facts are a bit more complicated. It is not an equal reaction, as the link below explains:https://www.nasa.gov/content/g…s-new-record-maximum
Too many people getting a wage out of this scare story. I will be pleased when old folks – where I live – stop dying from hypothermia every winter.
Perhaps this will put an end to talk of Global Warming.
So where does all the melted ice from the North Pole go ?
There are now an extra 7.4 million square miles of sea ice at the South Pole.
