We all lost an hour last week with the change to Daylight Savings Time, but in New York, the Empire State Building marked the date with a new sparkle and a new role.
Starting last Sunday, the iconic building’s LED lights will be set to ‘sparkle’ for five minutes at the top of each night-time hour, beginning at sunset, enabling it to also serve as a sort of clock.
The tower’s floodlights, used to celebrate many occasions with different color lights, were replaced with LEDs in 2012, and can light up in almost limitless colors and effects. Since then, there have also been a number of music-and-light coordinated shows as well.
