No more ‘Name Your Own Price’ for cars

Priceline’s famous ‘Name Your Own Price’ system is gone from its car rental business, following the NYOP option for airfare, which was dropped in 2016. Last week marked the end of the famed slogan.

Instead of naming a price and hoping a vendor will match it, customers will now be able to select an ‘Express Deal,’ with the price shown, but the rental company not named until the reservation is made. For now, NYOP will still be available for hotel rooms, although Express Deals are available there, too.

The company said that it has noticed customers preferring the opaque-but-no-wait method. The company built its original model on customer-bidding for airfare, and then other travel items, but as the company has grown into an international giant that includes booking.com, restaurant booking and more, that has become a less significant part of the business.
