It’s not only tulips that are blooming in the Netherland, it’s the tourists. Foreign and domestic, the numbers hit 42 million in 2017, up 9% in a year, and the biggest jump in more than a decade.
And that’s only counting those who stayed in accommodations with five or more beds—which leaves out many campers and most of the Airbnb crowd. Overall, of those counted, 18 million were from other countries, a 13% increase, with Germany, Belgium and Britain accounting for two-thirds, and the U.S. and Asia for 20%.
And as in the past, Amsterdam has been the big draw, and the biggest growth area, with relatively stable numbers in other parts of the country where the beaches, especially popular with German visitors, are the big draw.
