Starting next month, English-speaking visitors to Tokyo’s Imperial Palace will be able to take a walking tour in English with a live guide, with tours twice a day.
The 75-minute tour has up to now only been available in Japanese, although there is a smartphone application for a self-guided tour in Japanese and five other languages, including English and Chinese.
The Imperial Household Agency, which is responsible for the palace, noted that last year nearly half the visitors on the tour were non-Japanese, and that the largest common language among them was English.
