A Swiss town that owns a castle on Lake Lucerne has found itself swamped with applications for a job as keeper of the castle, a job that comes with great views and a low-rent three-room apartment in the castle.
Officials in Meggen, which owns the Meggenhorn Castle, were surprised when over 160 applications flooded in. The town’s committee is busy going through them to find the right candidate, who is retiring after 25 years on the job.
The retiring castlekeeper told Swiss media 20 Minuten that “It’s an absolute dream job, not least because of the view from the apartment.”
But, it’s not all beer and skittles. The manager is the sole regular employee, and is responsible for managing reservations calendars (the castle is a popular event venue), general management, and closing the shutters daily. That task alone takes half an hour for the 60 rooms.
