One of life’s little miseries is getting better, with Chicago’s airports joining a sort-of trend toward making WiFi free at airports. In Chicago’s case, it means dropping the 30-minute limit for free use.
Instead, users will be able to use as long as they want, even at streaming speeds, but will be shown ads at 45-minute intervals. The Chicago Department of Aviation says this is only one of several technology and safety upgrades in the works.
And more good news: Boston has backed out of a plan that would have called for a toll on passengers being dropped off or picked up at the airport by car rather than by public transit.
The charge was originally part of a package agreement with environmental groups that would have imposed the charge, but avoided opposition to adding 5,000 parking spaces at Logan Airport. The spaces will still be built, and airport authorities will continue to try to lower traffic and pollution in the area.
