Turkey Travel: 10 Beautiful Places to Visit in Turkey

Are you planning to go to Turkey anytime soon? I’m sure you are, that could be one of the reasons you are reading this article right now. Anyway, I’m here with a bit of first-hand advice to save your time. There are a few places in Turkey that you must visit at all costs! Let’s start with our little list.

1.  Hagia Sophia

You cannot possibly miss out on this one, guys. This place is located in Istanbul, and it was constructed in the sixth Century, it is considered a masterwork of Roman engineering and architecture. Hagia Sophia became a museum in 1935, and it is the top tourist attraction in Turkey.

2.  Goreme Fairy Chimneys

Odd name, isn’t it? But this place is very interesting indeed. There are some strange rock formations in Cappadocia which have been termed as Fairy Chimneys. Some of these fairy chimneys have been carved out hollow to make residencies and church etc.

3.  Library of Celsus

This library is found in the city of Ephesus, once known for the Temple of Artemis which was destroyed by a religious mob. The library of Celsus was reconstructed carefully to mimic the original building, incorporating remaining original pieces of architecture.

4.  Blue Mosque

The mosque was made on the order of Sultan Ahmed, and it is known by his name. It has six minarets and tomb of its founder. Inside the mosque, its ceiling has been lined with approx. 20,000 tiles and these tiles have given this mosque its name.

5.  Oludeniz

This place is a small village that is located on the west coast of the sea Aegean. The specialty of this beach is its turquoise waters, and to this date, it remains the most photographed beach of the entire Mediterranean region. What better place could you possibly find for your dream vacation other than this? Due to the unique panoramic views of this place, it is also regarded as the best resort for paragliding.

6.  Mount Nemrut

Mount Nemrut is a historical place with an air of somber serenity. King Antiochus had built a sanctuary at this place with statues of himself and various other figures, and since then their heads have toppled down to the ground and lay scattered on the ground. If you watch the place at sunrise, it seems mysterious and if you look at it at sunset; scary.

7.  Bodrum Castle

It is located in the city of Bodrum, and it was built in 15th Century by the Crusaders. It was the Castle of St. Peter. To this date, it considered one of the world’s most preserved monumental structure. Like many other historical architectural sites, this castle has been turned into a museum now.

8.  Pamukkale

The meaning of word Pamukkale is “cotton castle” in the Turkish language, is an ethereal structure located in western Turkey. It has pristine white terraces made of sedimentary rocks known as travertine. These rocks are deposited with rich minerals from waters of hot springs. For years and years, this place was host to baths and ruins of these baths can still be found.

9.  Patara Beach

This is one of the longest stretches of a beach that can find in the entire Mediterranean region. This beach has Lycian and Roman ruins at its back and a small café. A rare breed of loggerhead turtles is also housed by these beaches.

10.  Aspendos Theatre

Aspendos has one of the most preserved Greek theatres, and this theatre was built as late as in 155AD. It could house as much as 20,000 spectators. And it has constantly been maintained since then.
