Qantas, the Australian national airline, is getting ready to say goodbye to its fleet of 747s with a new order of six 787-9s that will bring its total to 14.
The 747 has been the backbone of Qantas’ long-distance services almost since the jumbo jet made its first appearance in the 70s. Qantas chief Alan Joyce told news services that “The jumbo has been the backbone of Qantas International for more than 40 years and we’ve flown almost every type that Boeing built.”
With the newer, more efficient Dreamliners, Qantas has been opening up longer non-stop routes, such as Perth-to-London. The carrier has its eye on more non-stop destinations in the Americas and Europe.
On a 24 Hour flight I need to have a break and take some exercise. Not a good selling point for the passengers.
