Swiss Railways voted best, despite no Wi-Fi

The Great Train Comparison Report, commissioned by online train booking service Loco, gave top honors to Switzerland’s rail system over 15 other operators running long-distance high-speed daytime trains.

The systems were rated on a 100-point questionnaire on how the companies provide services to families, to the disabled, cyclists, people with pets, and more. And apparently, no points off for Swiss railways’ recent decision not to offer free WiFi because it would cost too much.

Switzerland’s overall top placement included points for its family-friendliness, including play areas for children (above) on the upper level of some trains. Deutsche Bahn, which provides trained sitters, placed second in that category.

Switzerland and Span’s Renfe shared top honors for assistance to disabled passengers. Germany and Austria came out tops for backpackers. Switzerland was tops for skiiers and cyclists
