Dublin will soon get new non-stops to Vienna, competing with Aer Lingus on the route. Behind the scenes, it’s a Ryanair move on its traditional rival.
The new service will be flown by Laudamotion, Niki Lauda’s successor to the Niki airline that he once sold to Air Berlin, and took back in AB’s bankruptcy. It is now 24.9% owned by Ryanair, which has extended funding and expects to buy 75% of the company if approved by EU competition authorities.
The service was announced jointly by Niki Lauda and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary. Lauda told the press that “We are offering price-conscious customers exactly what they want with our city shuttle routes. I am certain that the interest will be high with our attractive fares on our new Dublin to Vienna service.” Fares on the new route will start at €19.99.
