Copenhagen/Malmo plan Oresund metro

Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmo, Sweden have become a single trans-national metropolitan area, with many people living in one city and working in the other. Now the two cities are planning a metro system that will serve both cities with an underwater link under the Oresund.

A bridge already connects the two with rail and car service, but the growth in traffic has led to delays, and the mayors of the two cities have formed a commission to get it done, with a target of full service by 2035. The approximately €4 billion would be financed by user fares as well as by profits from the existing bridge.

The mayors believe that the effect in speeding up travel and freeing more space for freight on the Oresund bridge would also make Scandinavia a  more  competititve area for business.
