Seattle Space Needle goes selfie-friendly

Seattle’s Space Needle is getting an update, including new features for better viewing, and a special feature for selfie fans: new slanted clear-glass benches that allow selfie fans to safely ‘fall off the tower.’

The benches are mounted to some of the new 11-foot high glass walls that are replacing the half-wall and wire caging that kept previous generations at the tower safe, but added obstructions to millions of photos.

The new feature, at the 520-foot height on the  605-foot tower, allows visitors to sit on the slanted benches and take selfies that give the impression of being in mid-air over Seattle.

The updates are an add-on to structural updates and repairs on the landmark, built in just 400 days for Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair.
