Hilton Hotels says it will cut its environmental footprint in half by 2030, and increase its investment in social impact projects. Included in the plan is a pledge to put no soap in landfills and reduce carbon emission.
The chain is the latest to pledge reducing plastics and other non-recyclables. The movement is driven in part by increasing regulation and official pressure, including the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, but also in part by public opinion.
A survey of 72,000 Hilton customers backs up the idea that consumers are interested in environmental and ethical issues, especially those under 25. Overall, more than a third said they research these issues before making decisions.
