One of the three private jets once owned by Elvis Presley is for sale at auction, but before you dream of soaring through the skies in The King’s red velvet seats, take note that there’s work to be done.
The Lockheed Jetstar has been parked at an Arizona aircraft boneyard for the past 35 years, and the auction catalog warns of “Missing items: Engines & cockpit components.” Photos of the plane’s exterior show rust and corrosion damage. Still, there are those seats, along with gold-tone hardware, custom woodwork and red shag carpet. And it’s the only one available; his two other jets belong to Graceland, his home.
No one is sure what the plane might go for; last year, it sold for $430,000, and needed work would add much more, if a buyer wanted it to fly. On the other hand, as an Elvis property, it might go for much more, even if it were never to fly.
