Cruise ship building boom goes on

It seems as if the world can never have enough cruise ships; there seem to be almost weekly announcements of new and upgraded ships.

This week, Norwegian Cruise Line tops the list with an order for two more of its Leonardo-class 3000-passenger ships, added to the four already on order. And it’s not their only ship on order; there’s another one of the larger Breakaway class under construction. They’ll all be delivered between now and 2025, at an average of new ship per year.

Celebrity Cruises, meanwhile, has announced that over the next four years, it will drydock each of its ships for major refurbishment, with new restaurants and features and especially upgrades to all of its suites. Also, the line will make a big visual change: its signature dark-toned interiors will give way to a lighter, brighter look.
