Authorities in Landevennec, at the tip of Brittany, have been forced to close town beaches to bathers at times because of a love-sick dolphin that’s willing to date people if it doesn’t find a dolphin.
The rules are in effect when the dolphin is sighted, and no one is allowed within 50 metres of it; it’s been known to chase bathers, a traumatizing experience for some, because dolphins are heavy and powerful.
Experts believe the amorous animal “I issued the decree to ensure safety… Several bathers were really afraid — he even lifted up a woman bather with his snout,” Mayor Roger Lars told the local newspaper Ouest France. The woman was pulled from the water by a rescue team.
At last report, the dolphin has not been seen for several days, and the beaches are open again, for now
