Dublin’s hotel boom: Not enough?

Dublin will open over 5,400 new hotel rooms in the next two year, but Irish tourism and visitor authorities say there still won’t be enough.

Hospitality Ireland’s new study says that by 2020, despite all the new openings, an additional 1,100 rooms will be needed. The group also credits the new rooms with creating over 5,000 jobs.

The building boom in hotels comes after a period of stagnation, and is driven by Dublin’s rapidly increasing tourism business, as well as business travel and  conventions. The agency says nearly every visitor to Ireland spends at least two days in the capital.
